Kia ora koutou
Just released to the public yesterday was an independent review into staffing in primary schools, the review being commissioned by the New Zealand Education Institute (NZEI). The general summary seems to be that New Zealand schools are understaffed which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. We are more fortunate than many schools, especially in terms of the support staff we have. This week across the country support staff have been recognised and thanked for the efforts they make. We are lucky to have such exceptional people in these roles and the effort they make in our school is huge. Each of them goes above and beyond what is expected of them for the good of our students. What they do is often behind the scenes but their collective and individual endeavours have very real benefits for our students.
Just a reminder about parking around the school. Between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning and from 3:00 until 3:30 in the afternoon there are no cars to be parked in the bus stops, even if it is to just quickly drop somebody off. There might not be a bus there at the time but there could be one right behind you. It happens more often that you might think and can be quite frustrating for our bus drivers. Also, out of courtesy and respect (not to mention the law) for our neighbours across the street, please don’t park across their drive. This also happens quite often but is especially noticeable on a Friday afternoon.
There was a bingo night run by FOLS last night, thanks to all who came and to those who ran it. It sounds as though it was a good night and was a success. Coming up over the next few weeks we have quite a bit on including four students who will be running at Southland Cross Country next Friday. Our Matariki night is coming up quickly too and for our senior classes reports will be out in the last week. This will be followed next term with parent/student/teacher meetings as we did in term one, early next term. During that time you’ll have the opportunity to book a time to chat with me too. If you want to catch up about anything please book in. If that time doesn’t suit, let me know and I’m more than happy to make another time that will work for you.
Have a great weekend everyone.
