Kia ora koutou

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the long weekend. I’ve heard about a lot of adventures taking place both near and far which sounds really exciting. I know in some cases plans are already being formulated for the summer break. Awesome!

Last weekend was an extra long one for our school due to ending the week with a teacher only day. We’re approaching a very busy time of the year so appreciate the support around this giving us time to plan for the busy term ahead. Over the next few weeks we have pet day, Year 5-6 camp, Year 1-3 trip, Year 4 trip to science roadshow, Tour of Southland, clubs continue and for a few of our students competing at Southland Athletics on 14 November. After all of that we’re going to need a break...a long one!

The last day of term this year will be Wednesday 9 December. We are hoping to have our break up ceremony the night before but this is still to be confirmed. Students will begin back at school again next year on Wednesday 3 February.

Have a great weekend everyone, I hope to see you at our pet day next week.

FoLS News

FOLS would like to thank Canvart for designing and erecting the new panel acknowledging all the wonderful families who supported our planting day last year. It is now on display on the outside wall of the bike container, where it is to sit between two bike park panels.

One of which is up, and thank you again to Canvart for designing and installing the bike park acknowledgement panel. Without all our generous sponsors and supporters the bike park would not have been possible. Awesome mahi!

There will be another planting session on the bike track soon. Details coming.

Pet Day BBQ

FoLS will be running the BBQ at Pet Day next week with sausages and meat patties for sale $2 each and ice blocks $1 each.

We will also be running a bake sale with individual items for sale from $2.

All proceeds will go towards our continued fundraising for the new furniture in the schools renovated learning spaces.

Northern Southland Community Pool Opening

The Northern Southland Community Pool Opens this Saturday 31st of October with a FREE SWIM for everyone from 1-3pm. Come along with the whole family and get your pool membership sorted. The pool will be open for 150 days this season and a family pool membership costs juat $140 plus a $20 deposit for the key. That's under a dollar a day for the whole family to enjoy the pool whenever they want! This year there is a new system ensuring the showers will always be warm and the pool heating improved. Your membership will also support the re-roofing of the pool mid next year. Swimming is a great way to keep the family active and swimming every day is the best way to teach kids to swim. Swim lessons are also available at the pool for children of all abilities for $9 a session through the Swim Club after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. For details contact Jeanna - secretary.nscpt@gmail.com or visit the Northern Southland Community Pool Trust Facebook page.

Cub Camp 2020

Exciting times for all cubs of the Balfour Scout Group: we went on camp! We stayed in tents at the scout den in Dolamore Park, Gore.

Cubs are kids aged between 7 and 10. We usually get together on Monday nights to do fun activities. During camp we cooked marshmallows, played spotlight and visited the glowworms. We tried to catch some kōura, but they were hiding from us.

All cubs and leaders had a great time and are looking forward to next camp.
