I am thrilled to be able to congratulate Lana Stevens, who has been appointed as Deputy Principal from the beginning of 2021. While I’ve been in the Acting Principal role this year, Lana and Judi McMillan have stepped into the DP role sharing the responsibility between them. I’ve appreciated the collective support they have provided me during the year and the input they have had, impacting positively on student outcomes both academically and socially. Having the full role is a new opportunity for Lana and an exciting time for us!
Our Year 4 and 5 students return from camp today along with Mrs Evans, Miss Falconer and a great bunch of parents who I am certain will be in need of a sleep in tomorrow. If you’ve been looking at the photos on Facebook you will have seen some of the things they’ve been up to. I was able to spend the day with them on Wednesday which was the day of the big hike. After hearing of the blue cod caught on Thursday I may just have missed out on the best day. I know all of the students will have enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all of the parents who have helped out with the camp, especially those that have taken on the camp kitchen role. And of course a HUGE thanks to Miss Falconer and Mrs Evans for all of the work they’ve put into organising and running the camp.
Our Year 1, 2, 3 students have had a trip out this week as well. On Thursday they were in Queenstown for the day checking out playgrounds and stopping in at Alpine Aqualand for a swim. From what I’ve heard, and the photos I’ve seen, it was a great day out exploring the area. Thanks to Mrs McMillan, Mrs Stevens and Miss Dobson for arranging this.
The Year 4 students haven’t missed out this week though, despite staying in Lumsden. On Wednesday they had the opportunity to attend the science roadshow which had called in just down the road at NSC. They had some hands-on experience and were really excited about what they had learnt. It’s great to see that enthusiasm.
Classes have been hard at work preparing pieces of art for the Kids Art Fundraiser. See the attached information, orders need to be returned to school by next Friday to ensure these can be delivered before the end of term.
As the weather heats up our school boiler will be turned off in the coming days. If we do have a bit of a cold snap please make sure your child has something warm to put on. Fingers crossed it will be nice over the next few weeks. Just a reminder too that Jeff Keen is organising a working bee tomorrow. If you’re able to help out it would really be appreciated. Give Jeff a call on 021 678 643.
