Newsletter 33 - November 20th 2020

Kia ora koutou

I can’t believe it’s Friday already! Where did the week go? It just seems like a couple of days ago we were welcoming our Year 5 and 6 adventurers back from Stewart Island. Some of those students and a small group of others from school went to Invercargill the following day to compete in the Southland Athletics. Ordinarily this would have been in term one but due to upgrades at the venue, this year it was in term 4. Sadly for some of our athletes it was the day after camp which was less than ideal. Nevertheless, in true Lumsden School spirit they tried their best and we’re all so proud of them! Well done all of you.

It’s not long now until the end of the year. This year our End of Year Ceremony will be at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday 8 December at 6:30. We had hoped that Andrew Watson would be able to join us so we could celebrate the contribution he has made to the school in his time here and farewell him. Sadly Andrew is not able to join us on that night. It is important that we do have the chance to do this so we are moving his farewell forward. There will be a special farewell assembly for Andrew at 1:30 Friday 4 December. All are welcome.

Next Tuesday we have John Parsons here for the day. John is an authority on Internet Safety and keeping all of us safe online. He will be working with each class during the day, running a staff workshop after school and then a presentation for parents/caregivers at 6:30. You are all invited to this, we’re incredibly lucky to have this opportunity so I hope to see you there.

Two weeks ago we sent home a notice asking for feedback regarding whether or not you support religious instruction at school. The programme we have in place is Launchpad, there has been information on this sent home too. So far we have had 22 families let us know. To be able to make an informed decision about the future of the programme our BOT needs feedback from more parents. If you can let us know Yes/No as soon as possible it would be greatly appreciated. Please let us know on Monday if you require another copy.

There was a small turn out at the working bee last Saturday. Thanks to those who did. Our grounds are looking pretty amazing right now, we really appreciate the effort you’ve made. Linzi Keen is organising a planting day coming up. This was done last year too and was very successful, see information on this elsewhere in the newsletter.

Due to our numbers at the beginning of 2021 we will begin the year with 4 classes. Mrs Stevens will have a Year 0-1 class, Mrs McMillan will have a Year 1-3 class and Miss Falconer will have a Year 4-5 class. We are yet to appoint a teacher for our Year 6 students but as soon as we do we will let you know.

Have a great weekend everyone.
